Student Welfare ...
What is Student Welfare?
Student welfare involves meeting the personal, social and emotional
needs of students to enhance their well-being. It is recognising,
valuing and developing each student as a total and unique person in the
context of society.
What does Student
Welfare aim to achieve for students?
Student welfare at Grafton High School encompasses all the things that
are done with and for our students. We focus on successful learning as
the essential outcome for every student. Programs are implemented
within the school to recognise and celebrate learning at an individual
and school level while providing assistance to those in need.
What is the
student and community involvement within welfare?
Grafton High School promotes the importance of student consultation and
leadership in the school and within welfare. We value and provide
opportunities for parents to discuss learning programs and behaviour
that focus on the development of social skills that enable students to
achieve better outcomes in both the short and long term.
Who is involved in
Student Welfare?
Every staff member, student, parents, carers and community members
associated with the school is a member of the student welfare team
assisting in the development of the students in our care.
Why is welfare
important to Grafton High School?
Grafton High School recognises and values the diverse backgrounds from
which students are drawn. We are proud of the proactive programs within
the school that support and extend students in the school and community
environment.
What does the
Welfare team do?
The welfare team at Grafton High School aims to ensure that the welfare
of all students has the highest priority in the operation of this
school. We endeavour to provide a supportive school environment for all
students by;
- Ensuring the school curriculum meets the needs of learners.
- Demonstrating care for students.
- Focusing of preventative strategies in areas of student need.
Who is responsible
for this team and these programs?
We are extremely fortunate at Grafton High School to have two staff
responsible for student welfare:
Mr. Scott Smith who has a PDHPE
teaching background. He trained at the University of Newcastle and has
previously taught in Newcastle and Nowra.
Mrs. Viv Nichols also has a PDHPE teaching background.
Additional support is provided by
a team of six Year Advisers. Their role is to provide individual
contact and support to each student in their group.
