What is Student Welfare?
Student welfare involves meeting the personal, social and emotional needs of students to enhance their well-being. It is recognising, valuing and developing each student as a total and unique person in the context of society.


What does Student Welfare aim to achieve for students?
Student welfare at Grafton High School encompasses all the things that are done with and for our students. We focus on successful learning as the essential outcome for every student. Programs are implemented within the school to recognise and celebrate learning at an individual and school level while providing assistance to those in need.


What is the student and community involvement within welfare?
Grafton High School promotes the importance of student consultation and leadership in the school and within welfare. We value and provide opportunities for parents to discuss learning programs and behaviour that focus on the development of social skills that enable students to achieve better outcomes in both the short and long term.


Who is involved in Student Welfare?
Every staff member, student, parents, carers and community members associated with the school is a member of the student welfare team assisting in the development of the students in our care.


Why is welfare important to Grafton High School?
Grafton High School recognises and values the diverse backgrounds from which students are drawn. We are proud of the proactive programs within the school that support and extend students in the school and community environment.


What does the Welfare team do?
The welfare team at Grafton High School aims to ensure that the welfare of all students has the highest priority in the operation of this school. We endeavour to provide a supportive school environment for all students by;


Who is responsible for this team and these programs?
We are extremely fortunate at Grafton High School to have two staff responsible for student welfare:

Mr. Scott Smith who has a PDHPE teaching background. He trained at the University of Newcastle and has previously taught in Newcastle and Nowra.

Mrs. Viv Nichols also has a PDHPE teaching background.


Additional support is provided by a team of six Year Advisers.  Their role is to provide individual contact and support to each student in their group.
